The Most Dangerous Intersections in Florida

For as many outlets Florida has for entertainment, residents know that driving here is easily the least entertaining part of the state. Often times tourists don’t find this out until they hit the road in their rental and realize it within moments. For many motorists in South Florida, we know what dangers are posed on roadways and intersections. South Florida has some of the most dangerous intersections in the nation. In fact, in 2001, State Farm Insurance issued a report stating that South Florida has the top most dangerous intersection in the nation.

The intersection reported in the State Farm report was the intersection of Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Since the report has come out, the town of Pembroke Pines have tried to make improvements to this particular intersection. They have added additional lanes and widen turn lanes for the intersection. They also invested in traffic cameras to catch traffic violators that will increase the accident rates. Since then the accident rate has dropped by 64%.

Another intersection that is on the rise of being one of the most dangerous is the intersection of Glades Road and Northwest 15th Avenue in West Palm Beach. Daily accidents occur here and cause traffic nightmares for commuters.

Some of the more heavily traveled roads are the one that tend to have the higher accident numbers. Two such intersections are Military Trail and Forest Hill Boulevard and Military Trail and Okeechobee Boulevard. For those motorists traveling along Military Trail and have to pass either of these intersections, awareness is the first step you need to take to keep from being an accident number.

As Orlando has grown in population over the years the traffic woes have grown as well. State Highway 50 has had its share of accidents but more so at the intersection of State Highway 50 and State Highway 436.

Officials have tried to acknowledge a lot of these dangerous intersections and have tried to make improvements. One example of this is the Southern Boulevard and U.S. 441 intersection. The sheer number of motorists has made the accident rates increase and the need for improvements great. Officials have added an additional northbound lane to see if this will alleviate some of the heavy congestion, which should decrease the accidents as well.

In Palm Beach County, the intersection of Boynton Beach Boulevard and Congress Avenue has gradually increased in the number of crashes reported. Even though this intersection does not have the number of motorists passing though as some of the other intersections in South Florida, the accidents rates have still steadily increased.

Following all the traffic rules and paying close attention will help you avoid accidents at some of these intersections. Unfortunately, sometimes it is not enough. If you do find yourself in an accident, you should to contact a local car accident attorney as soon as possible to make sure you get the appropriate legal representation for eventual compensation. Hopefully you can once again think of South Florida as fun in the sun and make your daily driving a little more relaxing.
